WHITE HOT 1 year, 30 days ago , by

It’s Memorial Day, so you know what that means…you can officially wear white again!
Just kidding—none of the old fashion rules apply anymore. Especially when you live in a seasonless environment like L.A. (BTW, *seasonless* in L.A. means you are equally likely to wear either cashmere or a bikini in January or July.)
Now, I’m not really a jeans person, but every year about this time I start thinking about some crisp white denim, a la Jackie O. in Capri.
It’s summer’s answer to the black trouser. The perfect backdrop for your breton stripes or a sexy tank. Show off bejeweled sandals or Birkenstocks. Add a blazer and open-toe bootie to take it to work, or espadrilles and a tee to take it seaside.
This season, I’m partial to the skinny cropped version. Pair it with a relaxed tunic or slouchy tank. Sleek and sexy, it looks great with everything from a ballet flat to a sneaker to a strappy heel.
The wide legged crop is a cool alternative to the culotte of the moment. To keep the look balanced, stick with something more sleek or fitted on top. We love it with a flat sandal, or a chunky flatform.
The flared bell bottom takes a little more commitment. This silhouette really needs a little height, whether it’s a block heel or a platform. But on top, it can work with anything from a peasant blouse to a kimono, or a sleek turtleneck or tee.
The cropped flare has been the street style darling of the season, and for good reason–it really is the hybrid of all the other styles. Works with just about anything and everything: sleek and fitted or relaxed and flowing on top, chunky and casual or high and sexy on your feet. A new shape that will instantly elevate even your most casual look.
And while I’m usually happy to snap up the denim trend of the moment from one of our fast fashion friends, this is one item where you may want to invest a little more money. It’s WHITE denim…the quality of the fabric will make or break you.
Oh, and probably also invest in some Shout wipes—I’m pretty sure mine will be on the receiving end of a red wine stain, day one.
