LA may not have “seasons”, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t excited for fall (especially since it’s been 90+ degrees lately…trust us, no one is more excited for fall than we are). So while the leaves on our palm trees may not be changing color, let’s bring on the cool boots, pumpkin spice lattes and, of course, fall’s hottest makeup trends.
Heavy metal shimmery lids and dark edgy lips made a major runway statement for fall 2015. This bronze eye vampy lip combo is a must-have look, and easier to achieve than you might think.
For the eyes, it’s as simple as swiping one powerful color across the lids. Try Yves Saint Laurent Full Metal Shadow, a liquid eye shadow with a vibrant metallic finish that’s also extremely long-wearing. All of the colors are gorgeous, but #1 (Grey Splash), #3 (Taupe Drop) and #7 (Aquatic Copper) are our favorites—select the one most flattering to you. You can also blend the color into your crease for a smokey effect, or use the applicator tip to line the eyes.
If a liquid shadow is more than you’re ready to attempt, try the new Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadow, a hybrid between a cream and traditional powder shadow. The highly-pigmented shades, such as the beautiful coppery brown Showtime and the soft pinky coral In the Spotlight, are easy to apply, and pack all the punch you’ll need.
This look takes a bit of commitment, so you’ll want to make sure your lip color has the same staying power as your eyes. Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Crème is pigmented, hydrating, and feels great on the lips—the color Scandal is an intense sexy plum that is a necessity for anyone wanting to visit the dark side. Of the trend, that is.
A matte lip offers a more dramatic take on the look, and is a nice contrast to the shimmer on the eye. Try the new Limited Edition Bite Beauty Frozen Berries Matte Crème Lipstick in Elderberry; it’s 90’s goth in the best possible way.
But whether you go glossy or matte, it’s a good idea to anchor your dark lipstick with a lip liner. It will prevent bleed and provide a base to make your color long lasting. Try the
NARS Velvet Lip Liner in Lanikai (burgundy), or the MAC Lip Pencil in Currant.
Of course, if you’re going to draw this kind of attention to your pout, it had better be in tip top shape…so it’s essential to have smooth, sexy lips before rocking the dark color. We love the Sugar Lip Polish from Fresh, a gentle exfoliator and moisturizer that is highly addictive. And to keep the pout perfect, a nightly moisturizing balm is a must. Rosebud Salve is a makeup artist favorite that leaves lip smooth and supple, and is wallet-friendly, too.
As for the rest of your look? Well, the metallic eye and vampy are already a strong statement (separately or together!), so it’s best to keep the rest of your makeup simple. Beautiful, dewey, natural skin is the only canvas you’ll need to let this look shine. Rock on, sister!
